Feng Shui Living Rooms ? Secrets to a Happy Life

Your living room is probably the most used room in your home. It is often the room in which the family gather to relax and enjoy each other's company, perhaps watch tv and to socialise in when guests come to visit. For most people, everything else centers around the public area of their living room. It is therefore important that this room be inviting and welcoming with a bright and cheerful ambiance to enhance the lively feng shui living room yang energy and to create harmony and peace. So, lets get started in making your living room come alive with Feng Shui.

Remove the Clutter

As many people use this room, it can often attract a lot of clutter, perhaps from unfinished projects, magazines and newspapers or maybe even left behind cups, saucers and ashtrays. Make sure that your living room is clear of unnecessary and unused items. You should also be weary of over cluttering with decor and furnishings. Understandably you would want to create your family's personal touch or identity in this room, but too much can over clutter and block the flow of positive chi. In a good feng shui living room, the placement of furniture should allow for the free flow for movement of people and chi within the room.

Sofa so Good

A good feng shui living room is warm and appealing with plenty of natural light and fresh air. There should be an even number of chairs in the room and all the furniture should be positioned with a full view of the entrances to the room. If the back of your sofa faces a door or window, you can place a table or screen behind it to remedy the feeling of a lack of support. It is best to have the sofa with its back against a wall.

The Round Table

Round or oval coffee tables are better than rectangular or square ones as these can create 'poison arrows' with their corners. Using your coffee table as a place to display flowers or fresh fruit in a bowl will bring greater fresh energy and subsequently leave no room for useless clutter. Make sure flowers or fruit are always fresh however, as dried flowers and rotten fruit will cause negative energy to be stagnant in this room.

Wall of Frame

In feng shui, living room space is ideal for displaying your favourite photos in frames, whether they be on a table, on a shelf or on the wall. It is even better to hang or display your pictures in groups or pairs as singular pictures can create a feeling of loneliness or isolation. For this same reason, it is best to display ornaments or books in groupings on shelves or book cases, but make sure to always keep them neat and tidy.

Box up the Box

As mentioned above, people often like to watch tv in their living room, and why not, as this is often the room you come to relax in. However, in feng shui, a tv is not only counterproductive to family interaction and often hypnotically distracting to all in the room when it is on, but it is also a source of electromagnetic radiation, even when they are switched off. If you must have a tv in this room and you want to create a positive feng shui living room, you can always contain it along with any other electromagnetic appliance such as a VCR, DVD player and stereo, in a cupboard or tv cabinet with doors and only reveal them when needed. This also keeps the room much neater with cables contained.

Having a feng shui living room is not only better for that balance of harmony and positive energy in your home and in your life, but it will ensure that you room is always neat and tidy for when visitors come over. Makes perfect sense really! So why not clear out that clutter, get your storage areas sussed, hide those electrical appliances, display all your favorite photos and some fresh flowers and sit back, smile and relax.

Feng Shui Magic: 10 Things You Can Do In Your Living Room to Achieve Maximum Health and Harmony!

As any practitioner of Feng Shui can tell you, the single most important thing you can do to get the most out of your home is by paying attention to color. Color is the single biggest determining factor in attracting love and romance to your bedroom, education and peace to the room of your children and health and harmony to your living room.

But do not think that by just throwing up some paint that you will be ready to go. Attention to detail is extremely important and the shade of each distinctive color you choose is very important.

Here are ten things you can do in your living room as pertains to color to achieve maximum health and harmony.

1) One of the best colors you can choose for your living room if your goal is to achieve health and harmony is blue. As is the case with Feng Shui, the important thing is to pick a shade you absolutely love and a shade that will fill your heart with joy and happiness every time you enter the room.

Blue is a color that is most often associated with meditation, peace and relaxation. Usually, a lighter, sky blue is recommended if you are attempting to achieve health and harmony, but a darker blue can sometimes be used if you really love it.

2) Reds are more powerful colors and usually represent control, power and confrontation. Keep reds at an absolute minimum in your living room. Reds can be used as a trim color on crown moldings or as a trim on curtains or as maybe a knickknack color on your coffee table or side table.

By using a little red around the edges of your living room space, you are conveying the idea that while this room is for health, relaxation and harmony, it is still a space in which you control and rule over.

3) Green is another color, like blue, that can be used in abundance in your living room area. Green stands for strength, health and long life. You would be better off choosing a lighter green than a darker, forest green, but it is more important to go with a shade of green you like.

Green can also be used as the primary color in your living room, as well as a supplemental color, too.

4) While purple is gaining in popularity as a primary home and room color, it should be avoided in your living room if you are trying to build a space for health and harmony.

Purple is too closely related to red and has many of the same connotations. Purple can be used in very small amounts as a trim color or as the color of something near the ground. This denotes that you are keeping your powerful aspirations grounded and under control.

5) Pinks should be kept in the bedrooms as they are a great love color. Pink is preferable to red, however, so if you are in love with this color, you can use it for assorted knickknacks and maybe even a shelf or entertainment center, but be sure there are not that many red or pink items inside because it would send too powerful a feeling into the rest of the room.

6) White is a nice color that not only stands for health and purity but it also goes with just about any color you choose. White can be used liberally with the greens and blues you have already chosen for your living area space. White carpet, while a pain to keep clean, is a great mood setter for your living room.

7) Grey is not a color you would want to use in large amounts, but it is perfect for the space immediately leading into the other rooms in your home. Use a throw rug or a small, grey-colored figurine right on the border between the two rooms. This stands for transition and is a natural fit.

8) Black is a color that should be banned from any space wanting to build positive, life-affirming chi. Try to avoid it even in small amounts. Any other color, even red, is more affirming than black in a space where you are trying to build health and harmony.

9) Yellow is another color you will want to keep to an absolute minimum. Yellow, like red and purple, stand for authority and power, not the kind of vibe you are looking to build in your living room.

10) Finally, gold can be used in small amounts since wealth and harmony are so closely tied together. It is a great trim color or even as a middle-of-the-room focal point, as long as it is surrounded by greens and blues to even it out.

To be the one room in a  home that brings the entire family together is the ultimate purpose of the feng shui living room. This particular room also serves as the place where you may entertain guests. So as to make it more inviting and be an area where people gather and socialize, the space has to be transformed in a way that promotes conversation and brings people together. Basic feng shui principles should be utilized to do exactly that. A variety of techniques may be applied to this area for the aim of connecting you to the people that are important to you.

The main piece of furniture in the living room is the sofa. The sofa is where you, your loved ones and your guests sit. The position of a sofa is critical in determining how 'qi' or energy will flow in the living room. You will find certain positions that aren't ideal for the sofa. In particular, if the front entrance of the home leads into the living room and is directly in line with the windows of that room, it is never a good idea to position the sofa directly in between the two. Avoid placing the back of the sofa against windows or facing a door. Also be sure there are no exposed beams on the ceiling right above where you happen to be sitting. The very best position for any sofa should be to have its back against the wall and diagonally across the door. If there happens to be other sofas and chairs in the room, arrange them together in a semi-circular shape so that the people sitting there will be able to talk amongst each other.

There happens to be many other solutions to optimize the living room to your benefit. Lighting is another important part of this room, it must be bright so make sure that there will be lots of lights besides the natural lighting that comes through the windows. Good places for lights include corners and dark areas. Since the living room is associated with the family, this should be the perfect room to display lots of family photographs. Other great home decor items that needs to be included in this area of the home are artwork and live plants. Use the bagua map to discover the best locations to place these items. Finally, besides creating a prime location for the sofa, there should be a distinct centerpiece in the living room. Typically if your house is included with a fireplace, that is required to be the centerpiece of the room. If you don't have a fireplace however, be sure to reserve that spot for the television or home entertainment center.

Use all of these great feng shui living room tips to make the most out of this family friendly room. Besides the important techniques discussed above, you must also remember to keep the area clutter free as you would for any other important room of the house. Clutter tends to make the 'qi' of a room stagnant so removing unnecessary items out of the living room is necessary to free up that energy.
