Cleaning Tips For Your Living Room Furniture

Buying living room furniture is a big investment that requires a lot of search time and preparation. Daily use can have a great impact on the longevity and look of your furniture, and you want to make sure you properly care for it in order to extend its use for as long as possible. Here are some great cleaning tips to keep your furniture looking as fresh and beautiful as the day you bought it.

  Avoid Harsh Chemicals

Stay clear of upholstery cleaners that use harsh chemicals or toxins to clean your furniture. These furniture cleaners may leave your furniture smelling and looking clean for some time, but there are risks associated with cleaning your furniture with them. For starters, these cleansers are typically full of harsh chemicals and toxins that can actually cause more harm than good to your furniture. Additionally, they are known to actually foster resoiling, resulting in more cleaning. These cleaners may also remove the protective layers of your furniture fabric, resulting in furniture that looks more worn, as well as causing harm to your upholstery.

Stay Clear of Steam

Steam cleaning initially sounds like a great idea when it comes to cleaning your furniture. However, it is important to consider what moisture can do to your furniture. Excessive moisture can cause odors, mold, and soil build-up. When steam cleaning is done the excess water must be ****** up, which can take days to fully dry. Even when the fabric appears dry on the surface, the moisture can still be present deep down. Steam cleaning may also strip your furniture’s upholstery, leaving it more prone than before to stains and soil.

Bring Out the Vacuum

Vacuuming your furniture regularly is a great way to clean debris and dirt off of your furniture before it has a chance to seep down and cause problems. Vacuuming will also allow you to prolong the need of more extensive and deep cleaning. Vacuuming should be done at least once a week. Make sure you not only do the visible parts of your furniture; you will also want to make sure you vacuum under the cushions and in the crevices of your furniture.

Spot Clean as Soon as Possible

Accidents happen frequently, and most likely your furniture will not be able to avoid them. Spills are likely to occur, and can lead to permanent stains if not taken care of quickly. Here are some ways to take care of these spills quickly and properly:

Always blot from the outside to the center of a spot. Doing so will control the spread of a spill

Test your fabric in a hidden area to make sure the color doesn not come off with the stain, or that a ring is not caused by the cleaning agent.

If the spot is liquid, use an absorbent white cloth or white paper towel to gently blot up the excess.

If the spot is solid material, remove the excess by lifting it off with a dull table knife or spoon.

Never rub, scrub, or brush a spill.

Never use strong chemicals such as bleach, solvents, or acids unless they are recommended by a specialist.

Never use sudsy detergents, as they leave a soapy residue that attracts dirt.

Avoid using tap water. Use distilled water or plain seltzer water. Minerals in common tap water can cause rings, even on treated fabrics.

Know Your Furniture Needs

There are a wide range of furniture fabrics and styles available. It is important to know which ones may or may not be best for your particular lifestyle. A leather sofa may not fair well with a home full of cats, but can work great with children because it is simple to clean and wipe spills. If you are decorating a room that will be low traffic and more for entertaining you can choose virtually any furniture fabric. You should also be aware that certain fabrics are more resistant to sunlight damage than others. If you need help finding out what fabrics fit your lifestyle, our trained associates will be happy to assist you at any store location.

The sofa and other various items that comprise the living room are often the center piece and the focal point for guests that you invite into your home. You want to make sure you are caring for them properly in order to keep them clean and increase their life. Following these tips will assure that your living room furniture is properly maintained and cared for.

Living Room Furniture Ideas

Living Room Seating

The way you arrange seating in your living room effects how your family and guests socialize and congregate in your home. With the right arrangement and seating styles you can turn a drab and quiet living area into a buzzing den of conversation. Look for couches that reflect your personal style, but also offer comfortable seating. Be wary of seating that is too soft, as this will make it hard for people to sit forward and engage with others. On the other hand, finding a chair, chaise or recliner in which to hunker down for movie or TV viewing is perfectly reasonable – just make sure that it isnt your main item of living room furniture. A couch that is too firm will not be comfortable for long conversations. Often the best choice is something cushiony but supportive. Popular living room seating includes couches and sectional sofas, chaise lounges, accent seating, recliners, armchairs and loveseats.

Media Furniture

Todays media furniture needs to do more than just house your TV and stereo. It is just as important that your entertainment armoire, media cabinet, entertainment center or Audio-Video rack hold CDs, DVDs, and even old videotapes, while matching or coordinating with the existing home furniture. Your ultimate decision will depend in large part on what fits the space, although personal preference is always important.

Living Room Accessories
Coffee tables, end tables, side tables, ottomans and decorative chests are just a few of the larger, more impressive pieces of living room furniture accessories available. Smaller living room accessories help to add homey touches that make a house a home. Such items include candleholders, picture frames, artwork, and flower vases among many others.

Living Room Furniture Styles
As you shop for your new living room furniture you will encounter several different styles. Keep the following in mind as you decide what works best in your home.

1.Modern living room furniture is sleek and streamlined and known for using the most technologically and architecturally advanced design. Modern living room furniture often incorporates metal and glass, and allows the furnitures form to make a statement, without utilizing patterns or frills.
2.Transitional living room furniture is a combination of modern, traditional, and casual styles. Borrowing from both the Arts & Crafts Movements and the Modern Movement, transitional living room furniture is not as bold as modern furniture, but uses some of the same principles in beautiful and subtle ways.
3.Traditional living room furniture springs from many sources, including Colonial furniture design, Queen Annes reign, and antique Roman styles. Often crafted from hardwoods like mahogany and cherry, this style tends to feature more ornamentation and embellishments than other living room furniture styles.
4.Casual living room furniture is all about laidback comfort. Often seen in natural- or light-colored woods, this style fits the no-nonsense home and a “no frills” sensibility.

Living Room Sets

I just purchased the nicest living room furniture set that you have ever seen. Of course, I didn’t get it right away. I have been looking at living room sets for months and months, and it took me all of that time to decide on the perfect one. A living room set, after all, is not something that you should rush into, even if it looks like the most beautiful living room furniture that you have ever seen. After all, the living room set that you buy is going to be with you for a long time as an almost permanent parts of your house. Isn’t it worth waiting on your living room set to make sure that you have the perfect one? I certainly think that it is.

But now let me get back to what I wanted to tell you about in the first place. My living room set is just sensational. There is no other word for it. There is a leather sofa and love seat, a beautiful mahogany coffee table, and of course elegant recliners and rocking chairs to set off the room perfectly. Really, I have wanted to get a living room set for probably a couple of years, but I had been held back. You see, I had been living in the same house for several years, but had been thinking about moving. Although I had looked at more than one living room set that would have looked perfect in that house, I did not want to buy a new one until I was settled in the place that I was going to stay in. After all, the living room set that looks great in one house does not necessarily look great in another, especially if the other house is much bigger. That is why I thought it would be worth my while to take my time and choose my living room set is the absolute last thing in making my new house perfect.

If you are looking for a living room set, I have a couple of great suggestions for you. The most important thing is to take your time, like I did. This is especially the case when you are thinking about matters such as color and material. What seems like the perfect material and the perfect color one day will not necessarily seem perfect the next. But if you take your time, and choose carefully, I’m sure that you’ll find the perfect living room set.
