Sink into comfortable and stylish armchairs after a long day

There are some stunning looking armchairs available, and some of these are incredibly uncomfortable to sit in. Surely, that defeats the objective of being comfortable! Above all else, we want comfort from our armchairs. A plush, squishy, deep chair may seem the perfect choice, but it's not as simple as that. You may think it is easy choosing one that is comfortable, but the fact is there is a lot to consider before buying them.

What do you need to think about when choosing armchairs? For me, the first thing I consider is comfort. There is no point in having a great looking chair if you can't sit in it comfortably for any length of time. Being comfortable in armchairs is crucial, as how else are you going to sit and enjoy that two-hour movie! Obviously, the material covering the chair is important too. Leather is an incredibly popular choice these days and understandably so.

There are some lovely styles of armchairs, in a huge range of colours and materials. As stated earlier, leather is a very popular choice. It is hard wearing, looks good and is very comfortable. Leather may not be what you want, but don't worry; there are plenty of different upholstery styles and types. The choice of colour is endless, funky, traditional, cottage, chintz and everything in between. Whatever you eventually decide on, choose a style that fits your other furniture and room.

armchairs don't necessarily just have to be in the living room. A tub style chair is equally at home in a bedroom or even a bathroom if you have the space. Don't limit your comfort to just the living room. If you have a cosy corner in the kitchen, you could have an armchair or armchairs in there. After all our kitchens are often the warmest places in our homes, and a chair in there is a great place to sit with a book or newspaper.

Don't think your choice of armchairs needs to match every other piece of furniture in your room. It's often with great effect that designers mix and match single pieces of furniture for a more individual eclectic look. How to Breathe Life Into your Living Room

As the name suggests, a living room is where you spend most part of your daily routine life. The most important functions in a home like dining, recreating, entertaining guests and watching television etc., are all, usually, hosted by the living room. Therefore, it becomes all the more imperative that you maintain your living room and make it as good as possible with ideal decoration. Now, decoration may take the shape of arranging, re-arranging or buying new furniture for your living room. It may also take the shape of entirely re-doing the architecture of the living room. But this is a slightly expensive and long-term plan that may or may not work.

For the sake of brevity, this article will focus on dabbling with your furniture in order to breathe some life into your living room. The kind of furniture used in the living room depends a great deal on the requirements of the family. For instance, a home with kids may have entirely different needs while those with mostly grown ups in the family will value the grace and looks of Amish made furniture.

Fortunately, you don’t have to start from scratch in order to make your living room a living entity. The furniture already placed in your living room, if seems ugly, can be refurbished or even re-arranged to give a brand new look to the room. Living room can be compartmentalized by some strategic measures that may include separation by cabinets, shelves or even clever flooring and different paint patterns for the walls. The idea is to have optimum utilization of space in the living room.

You can also experiment with different types of furniture for different requirements. For instance, Amish furniture could be used to show your sense of appreciation towards craftsmanship. Remember, your living room also doubles up as the place to entertain your guests and business delegates. And carefully crafted Amish Oak furniture might just land you a lucrative long-term contract! Wicker furniture may also be used to lend variety in the living room. Plastic furniture is easier to handle.

Always leave some free space to allow your living room and other furniture to breathe and also not look cluttered. If you have lots of extra stuff and find it hard to store small items, the furniture items with storage units should be your first choice. Decorative items like lamps and photo-stand etc. must not occupy too much space. The motto is to beautify the room with as little articles as possible. The decorative items must be unique and not too many!

Leather sofas are always easy to maintain and also add the requisite gloss to the living room. The paint of the living room should not give out the feeling of gaudiness. Evergreen light colors should be used in the living room. All the experimentation should be done in other rooms of your home. Always keep your living room free from dirt by periodic cleaning and dusting. The stains on the furniture should be removed without delay. The stains may become permanent if not treated immediately. As far as possible, keep the kids away from the delicate items in your living room.

As a professional London Interior Designer, I meet with clients all the time who simply crave more originality and personality in their interior spaces. It is such a delight for the interior designer to be able to transform a house into a home by judicious use of lighting, stencils, photo frames, rugs and frames, to name just a few. Each of the different classes of accessories allows the professional interior designer to lean into a certain style, emotion or personality framework in order to create stunning results. In this article, I will draw on my experience in London’s design community to suggest a few great options if you’re looking to spruce up your home this winter with some interior designer magic.

LIGHTING. If there are nooks and crannies that just don’t get enough light, interior designers may recommend low-voltage illumination to make your interiors look larger and more welcoming. This can also boost your mood – perfect for the gloomy and overcast London skies that are all too common this time of year. Some professional interior designers will recommend theatrical lighting moods, so that you can flip between settings to choose either relaxed, or atmospheric and edgy, or task-orientated, all according to your needs.

COLOUR. The hue of the lighting system can substantially impact the overall look of a room. Incandescent filaments are now being phased out across the European Union, and London interior designers are having to rely instead on compact fluorescents or halogens to create custom effects.

SCONCES. Wall-mounted sconces slide over lightbulbs to give a gentle fuzzy glow to a room. Interior designers sometimes combine glass outer sheaths with paper diffusers to create unique effects and soften the overall feel.

ARTWORK. Art is great, but well-lit artwork is even better – and interior designers are often specially-trained in how to perfectly illuminate choice pieces of art. Recessed lighting can be a great solution for both photographs and paintings. For sculptures, some interior designers love to use spotlights or feature lighting for more of a museum showcase feel.

INTERIOR DESIGNERS DO OUTSIDE, TOO! Exterior lighting is a great way to make a fabulous first impression for evening dinner guests or invitees to a luxury London soiree at your designer home. Exterior lighting solutions can even cast light indoors, as well ... some interior designers like to be really creative and hide exterior lights in bushes or under trees to create natural diffusion before the light trickles in through the windows and makes fabulous patterns on the ceiling or wall.
