Wall Sconce Candle Holder - This One’s for You

I received an email from a lady by the name of Elizabeth. Elizabeth lives in Mesa, Arizona. She has a Ranch style four bedroom, three and one half bathroom home in the typical Spanish architecture of that region of the southwestern United States.

Anyway, she wrote to me saying that she was doing some decorating in two rooms of her home and was looking for some wall decorating suggestions. Elizabeth went on further to say that the rooms that she was about to decorate are the living room and the dining room.

To make things easier for me to understand in regards to the decor and furniture already in these rooms, she sent me pictures of both of the rooms so that I could study them carefully and make my suggestions.

Almost instantly my thoughts went to wall sconce candle holders. There are some beautiful pieces that would add subtle charm to any southwestern decor.

I started with the living room. In this room the carpet is a medium tan. There is a rather large overstuffed dark brown leather couch, a red leather chair and a cloth chair in a southwestern pattern of reds, yellows, greens and golds. Surrounded by the couch and chairs is a large square marble coffee table in a medium dark brown marble swirl.

There is an adobe fireplace in the wall corner in the shape of a cone with the larger part of the cone on the bottom, tapering up the corner if the wall. This fireplace is a medium brown with artful scrolls in dark brown accenting the opening of the fireplace, the large black mantle and the upper half of the cone going up the wall corner.

To the left of the fireplace are windows and a sliding glass door overlooking the desert and mountains in the background. On the right side of the fireplace is a wall with two large unframed Native American oil paintings, one on top of the other. This is due to the lack of wall space because there is a large oak entertainment center covering most of the wall space.

This is all I needed to see. I immediately went to work and found several wall sconce candle holders that would complete this room. My choices were the Varazze Wall Sconce, the Leyanna Mosaic Wall Sconce, the Belleville Wall Sconce or the Meyda Scrolling Wall Sconce. Any one of these wall sconce candle holders would add an awesome feel to Elizabeth’s living room.

Next, I took a look at the pictures of Elizabeth’s dining room. The floor in this room is oak. In the middle of the room is a rustic looking large oak dining room table sitting on a large southwestern style woven rug. Around the table are ten oak chairs with ox blood colored padded leather backs and seats.

There is a large American Indian wall tapestry on the wall opposite the outer wall of the room. Below the tapestry is a long buffet cabinet that matches the table and chairs. The outer wall has two rather large windows with colorful southwestern window treatments. The wall space in between the two large windows is a boulder fireplace going up the entire wall.

It took me only a few minutes before I had some great suggestions for wall sconce candle holders on each side of the tapestry. I came up with three wall sconce candle holders that would enhance the overall look of the room. These choices were the Crossed Arrow Western Wall Sconce Pair, the Rustic Essence Wall Sconce and the Copper Round Sconce Pair. Any of these would add a warm feeling to the room.

So I emailed Elizabeth with my list of wall sconce candle holders for each room.

A few days later I get an email from Elizabeth saying that she loved my suggestions and she decided to buy all of them. She said that it was just too difficult to choose only one set of wall sconce candle holders from my selection, so she got them all. This way she can change them from time to time and keep a fresh new look to these rooms in her home all year round.

Have you grown up with a stained glass memory? Many of us can remember the first time we experienced the treat of watching the sun pour in through one of these colored glass windows. There is absolutely nothing like it. This wonderful sight stirs the imagination and therefore creates a memory that cannot be erased.

Stained glass windows have decorated churches throughout the world for many, many years. These windows are used to enhance the radiance of the church, depict Biblical stories, and portray the image of Christ and the cross. As children, we entered these places of worship and were filled with awe at their beauty and majesty. Our minds wandered thinking of the stories and people that were represented in the glass. We became excited as we watched the sun shine in and bounce colors off the walls. We continued to watch as the sun would go behind the clouds, the windows would darken and their appearances change. Patiently we waited for the sun to peek out again, knowing how wonderful it was to watch the windows and the images they portrayed come to life. Stained glass memories filled our minds.

Beginning in the Victorian era, people started decorating their homes with these amazing windows and in the last hundred years or so this trend has become quite popular. I grew up in a turn of the century two story house and we were blessed to have both a leaded glass door with leaded transoms on each side and also two stained glass windows adorning the living and dining areas. I loved these windows as a child. I especially loved how the sun created dozens of brilliant rainbows on our parquet floors. My imagination would run wild staring into the abstract stained windows as I would always see the face of a lion in one of them. It was so exciting and mysterious watching how the brightness of the sun and the time of day would change the appearance of these windows. Stained glass memories filled my mind.

Fortunately my parents still live in that old house and now, when we visit, my children have the opportunity to delight in the rainbows on the floors and make their own special stained glass memories. Although my imagination isn't what it used to be as a child, I still adore the beauty and life that these unique windows bring into their environments.
