Getting the most out of your living room design

Living Rooms

Any space can look good on paper but can often change once you actually get all of the pieces together. Everything may have worked in your head but once you actually get it into practice, you will find that sometimes it is not entirely compatible. This is why you may want to plan the way you use space in your living room in a way that will help to open the room up, designating certain areas of the room for certain activities. This can help to make sure that everyone in the room will feel comfortable while they are spending time in it.

Most places will have the living room as one of the biggest spots in the house. Normally it will be wide open and you can pretty much design with lots of things. But what if your area isn’t near as big as you want it to be? You can actually still decorate this spot as easily as a larger room and even make it look bigger too. By streamlining what you may place in your living room or even how your living room is going to be used is a good start to the project.

Most living rooms have the TV in and it’s where everyone will sit and watch a movie or some sports. In this case your focal point is already set for you obviously it will be that TV. Now you will just need to provide enough seating for the people who may be in your living room and watching TV. Most commonly used in the living room would be a sofa; this will provide multiple people with seating. Plus the use of armchairs will work too.

Of course, you will also want to provide space near all of these seating arrangements for snacks and drinks, as most people like to enjoy something while they are watching the television. Providing a table for every seat is generally a good rule of thumb to follow. It will give everyone the space to set something down while they become absorbed in what they are doing.

Living rooms can also be the place where you go to read a book and just relax. For that it would be a good idea to have either a nice armchair, or even an ottoman. You will need to either add some color by use of an area rug, or some paint on the walls. Try not to crowd too much furniture in the living room though this may only have you with limited space and a crowded area.

Perhaps the most important part of designing an effective living room is making sure that there is enough space between all of these areas for anyone to move comfortably. If there is not, the room will feel crowded and it will be annoying for anyone to move through the room as they may have to ask others to move. This can disrupt the unity and the comfortable setting the room is supposed to provide and this cannot be considered a success with the design.

About Round Area Rugs

Interior Design

A round-shaped area rug can catch anyone’s attention faster than Brad Pitt can. Okay! Okay! I’m exaggerating. The thing is, round is always meant to be in the center, a centerpiece, a focal point. Have you noticed how off it looks when something round is positioned at the sides? Round is meant to be the center of attention, but convey it through an attractive object like an area rug, makes it a superstar. Somewhat like Brad Pitt.

It doesn’t matter if you’re crazy about globes, apples, balls, oranges, and everything that has no angles whatsoever. A round area rug will not fail you as a home decoration. It’s cute, original and interesting. When most people are using four-sided rugs, you are using a circular shape that surely deserves to be the focal piece.

Almost all rooms in the house can be adorned with a round-shaped rug. The bathroom, bedroom and living room are three ideal places. Just a reminder – avoid placing a round area rug in a crowded space. It can either overshadow the other furnishings (in a bad way) or it can stand out as an unfitting decorative piece. A round area rug should be the focal point. With its shapely curves, why not?

If you are dying to have a round area rug but are not sure how it will look, a safe place to start would be the bathroom. Inexpensive, round floorings for a bathroom are easily available in all home dcor stores. Purchasing one they allow you to decide if you like the round look without having to spend a lot on experimenting. Make sure your bathroom is large enough to include a round rug; you do not want the edges to be touching the walls.

The bedroom is also a great choice for round area rugs. Choosing one in beautiful, relaxing and soothing colors can make your bedroom comfortable. Try placing it in front of your bed, at the headboard and in the center of your room to find where it looks best. If you are lucky enough to have a fireplace in your bedroom a round rug could be placed in front of the hearth.

Living rooms can also be graced by the presence of a cute round area rug. Save your best rug for this place because obviously, the living room is where we receive guests, so you might as well make a good impression, right?

Just like with any other shapes of area rugs, the size for a round one should be considered. Check the area and make sure you purchase the right size. The rug shouldn’t be too big or too small. The colors and the designs also have an impact in the total look of your rooms, so better to match or complement, instead of rebel against the other decorative items.

Round area rugs are also available in different materials. Your budget will have a say on which kind you can afford to display. Wool and silk oriental fabrics are more expensive. Cheaper materials are synthetic and cotton. Rugs made of natural fibers last longer than those of artificial fibers but the former can be pricey. Nevertheless, think of the quality. Besides, a rug that easily deteriorates means you have to buy a new one. Isn’t that spending more?

Your home will look so pretty with round area rugs scattered in the different rooms. They are unique and very appealing. I bet then that your place will be as fun as you are.

Changing A Room With The Use Of An Area Rug

Interior Design

You all too easily find several articles that tell you how to use an area rug to lend a little bit of character to any particular room. What we’d like to do though is to show you how to spice up an entire room with the rug as the starting point.

First things first – do you have a special theme in mind for the room you want to decorate? What colors do you envision using? Once you have decided that, it’s time to go rug shopping! And seeing as the rug will most likely be the focal point of the room, the best option would be to either get yourself a Persian rug or perhaps an Oriental rug or a nice transitional rug. The latter is named thus due to its ability to blend different elements and colors in a room into one seamless creation.

Regardless of your choice of rug style, it will have to be one capable of grabbing the attention of the observer, hence our recommendations. Each of the recommended rugs usually comes with a central medallion in bright, bold colors which, as you can imagine, will be the focal point of the room.

Considering other decorations is as important as choosing the right rug. Because the rug is the centerpiece, all the other decors must adhere to what complements or matches it. Select items like an armoire, table or chair that has suitable hues and textures. Why not look at the bigger picture and ensure that these things also enhance the rest of the room and not just the main rug? It will absolutely make it much, much better!

Art works are classic. They are impressive decorating pieces that add taste and class to a room. You can display colorful works or go timeless with black and white. Works of nature almost never go wrong, and lasting masterpieces of great artists are real prized possessions.

Once you are happy with all the furniture and art, another thing that will have to be paid attention to is the lighting. Does the room get plenty of natural sunlight? What kind of lighting does the room have at night? Having a couple of spotlights focused on key items could enhance the ambience of a place and supply it with a smoldering warm look.

And finally, when all’s said and done, use some more area rugs to define areas within the room. These should preferably be neutral or adorned with small patterns in colors that will enhance the main focal point of the room. Also take care to ensure that they are smaller in size than the main rug – rugs in equal size could divide the room in two.
