is Carving in wood or antler a likeness to a calender picture a infringement on copyright?

To change from one medium to another a copyright subject? From a painting or sketch that was put out very public to be carved into a wood or antler statue..... From one demention into 3 demention? Not trying to take the Artists work as my own, just a beautiful idea and with my concept... very very nice. How does this work for the Artist that origionally made the sketch/painting?

No, if you make it by hand it's not copied. An artist in NY city, painted perfect 100 dollar bill's and was arrested for that. In court they ruled that it's not copy right infringement. His dollar bill paintings are worth tens of thousands now. Go for it! Just don't misrepresent yourself!
