Another thing you will need to do for either option is to check your local building codes to confirm what type of foundation you should build. This will of course depend on the type of shed and size.

Shed kits will also not come with paint or varnish so remember to add this into your budget too.

Now, if you are considering using wood shed plans to build your own outdoor garden shed then make sure the designs include detailed materials lists and cut lengths. This will save you a lot of money in the long run because you can get your wood cut at the lumber yard cheaper than what it will cost you by buying it pre-cut from the DIY store. Also make sure the blueprints have clear instructions showing you what to do at each step of the construction. Make sure the plans include how to set foundations and a build the roof of your choice.

Personally I would go for the second option because I like the satisfaction of doing a project on my own from scratch. Secondly it is a lot cheaper and it doesn't take much more time than buying a wood shed kit and setting it up.

As long as the wood shed plan is detailed and thorough, building your shed, on your own, is quite possible. Not only that, but it's hugely satisfying.
