Country kitchen curtains are becoming more popular again. They were popular in the late 80s and early 90s when it were in high demand. Country kitchen curtains are not just the cute cats or olden dolls staring back at you when you walk by. No, they are now more of a pattern, gingham and checkerboard. Yet the colors remain the same, hunter green, dull blues and grays, mustard yellows and pale white to name a few. And of course, the old standby in country curtains has always been red, white and blue.

Country kitchen curtains, cheap tier curtains, Victorian curtains and French curtains are all considered curtain window coverings. Anything that covers a window is considered a curtain widow covering. It can also be made of wood, such as a bamboo shade, or plastic such as a mini blind. These things all sold as window coverings. There are other things that cover windows, such as window clings. These are pieces of plastic on one side and an almost sticky side that 'clings' to the window to form a barrier from site. These clings are mostly used when privacy is wanted like in a bathroom window or near the front door.

Some people learned how to sew window curtains from their parents, others from a book from the library while others learned in Home Economics in school. Sewing curtains is rather simple once you have the measurements of your window right. Always measure twice, cut once with your materials. The sewing is the fun part, once you have your pattern and material picked out and the window measured, you don't have to be a wizard with the sewing machine, a needle and thread will be fine. Measure the material down from the top about ten inches and fold it over. This is where you sew across making a tunnel for the curtain rod. If the bottom is not hemmed, then you must hem the bottom and the sides also if they are unfinished. Then you are ready to hang your country kitchen curtains.

If sewing is not your thing, you might try cheap tier curtains. Tier curtains are curtains that have usually three, but sometimes more, layers. Sometimes these layers are puffy and sometimes they are flat and pleated. Cheap tier curtains can be found at many department stores or retail outlets and work in many different rooms in the house. They especially look good on long, narrow windows where the length is longer than the width. Most cheap tier curtains go all the way to the floor; however, country kitchen curtains can also be made into cheap tier curtains. Curtain tie backs hold the curtains back, with either a piece of material that matches or contrasts the curtain material, or a ribbon or a braided rope so that you can see outside the window. Curtain tie backs make a beautiful accent to any type and style of curtains. Country kitchen curtain tie backs come in the same colors as the curtains do and often come with an ornament.
