How do I remove stickers from my wall?

Well, they're not actually stickers, but little sticking paper that stuck these plastic stars onto my wall. I removed the stars years ago, but am now removing the adhesive material. However, when I try peeling them, the paint comes off as well...
So is there a better way to remove the adhesive stuff? If there's no way to remove them without peeling the wall, how can I redo the wall spots?

goo gone. smells like ornges. or use and ornge peal. the oil from the outside of the peal should take it off.
